While Jim was washing up, Terry went out to the barn for a drink of water. The well was on the ground floor of the barn. In the darkness of the structure he collided with Roberta returning from the chicken coop. She pawed at his shoulders to escape from falling, and then strained against him, her head digging into his upper chest: her breath exuding into him, like a spasmodic fan-blast of heat.
